Program Overview
Advancing Practice Portfolio
The Advancing Practice Portfolio is a module designed to support learners from registered health care professionals in developing a professional portfolio. This portfolio will enable them to evidence their capability to practice at an advanced level.
Module Overview
The portfolio will contain a range of evidence mapped to relevant advanced practice frameworks/standards and the associated necessary knowledge, skills, and behaviors required at an advanced level. Learners will be guided through the module by an academic and workplace clinical supervisor who will support with:
- Identification of relevant advanced practice framework(s)/standard(s)
- Completion of a learning needs analysis
- Development of a learning contract
Module Options
There are two options for the Advancing Practice Portfolio module:
- Advancing Practice Portfolio 1 (20 credits at master's level): Suitable for an experienced clinician with a significant level of pre-existing portfolio evidence. Development of new learning and evidence will typically amount to 200 hours of study, and the module will be completed within a single semester.
- Advancing Practice Portfolio 2 (40 master's level academic credits): Suitable for a less experienced clinician with a less developed range of pre-existing portfolio evidence. Development of new learning and evidence will typically amount to 400 hours of study, and the module will be completed over the course of two semesters.
Teaching, Learning, and Assessment
- Structure: This is a single module that can be completed as part of the Advancing Practice in Health Framework or separately as individual CPD.
- Duration: One semester (20 credits) or two semesters (40 credits)
- Delivery: The course is delivered online.
- Outcomes: 20 or 40 credits at SCQF level 11 Learners will be provided with an Academic Supervisor to guide them through the portfolio development. There are online synchronous sessions to discuss learning needs analysis and learning contracts. The final submission will include the completed portfolio and a reflective narrative commentary on the range of evidence within the portfolio.
